Q1
Reflection (term paper)
While writing my paper, I liked how it brought back memories of when I was little and seting my goal. When we were told the the topic I didn't know what to write. Then that memorie of me came up on my head and I knew that I should write that. It made me think that I acomplished my goal and haven't really relized it even happened. The things that I didn't like is taking all my ideas and having to put it on to paper. It's hard for me because I have a great idea in my mind but when I start to write about it, its not as great as I thought.
I want my reader to know that dance is really important to me. I set that goal when I was in fourth grade and I still acomplished it when I became a sophmore in High School. The thing that I would have done differently would be in class when the term paper was being introduced. With being busy and not coming, I didn't know how the paper was suposed to be written, how many words, paraghs, ex. Also I would've made more time to write more drafts for my paper. Since 8th grade I've grown to be a better writter, learning more about writing. Listening and taking any of those things made me a better writter.

Lights Go On, Time to Shine (term paper)
What was your most defining moment in your life? Mine was finding out that I wanted to be a dancer at Taylorsville High. I was a fourth
grader in elementary when I made that decision, but I didn’t know that it would take a lot of work to accomplish my goal. When I was growing up I would always keep that goal in my mind, and whenever I was down or giving up, I would push myself to accomplish that goal. I knew what I wanted in high school.
It all started when I was in fourth grade at Harry S. Truman Elementary. We were told that Taylorsville High Dance Company was coming to dance for us. My friends and I were excited! When we walked into the gym to sit on the rock hard floor, I was curious of what type of dances they would be doing. When one of the dancers came out in her weird costume and makeup, I was amazed like a little baby finding out that he or she has toes. Our principle told us that this dancer came to Harry S. Truman Elementary when she was my age. Finding that out it made me have the idea of dancing in high school. When the curtain opened, my eyes were glued to the dancers the whole time. I knew that I defiantly wanted to be on the same dance company to show off my talent to little kids, just like them. When I was a seventh grader at Eisenhower Jr. High, I found out that they also have a dance company. So I worked hard that year to be able to try out that end of the year. When tryouts came up, I was nerves. I remember my dances well but still doubted myself. The next day I saw my name on the paper that I made it. I
was so happy and surprised that I made it. I danced two years for them preparing me for the “massive” tryout. I put everything that I knew into my dances for my big tryouts for Taylorsville Dance Company. I started to doubt myself again, but then I remember how determined I was in fourth grade that I wanted to become a dancer in high school. From telling myself that my name was called after and I made it.
Now knowing that hard work does pay off. Also I know that have a goal in life will push you to where you want to be. I never knew that I would become who I am today. It’s amazing to show off my talent and learn other dances to all different kinds of performances. I can show myself, tell how I feel, or just have fun through dance. If I didn’t see the dancers in fourth grade, or determined that I wanted to become like one, I wouldn’t know what I would be doing today.

Scotland (Breath of Work)
Have you ever been overseas or wanted to go outside of the country one day? I got the opportunity to go to Scotland, Ireland, Whales, and England in the summer of 2012. The group that I went with was People to People Ambassador Program. I was so excited when I was accepted into this wonderful program after reading the letter and making it past the interview. It was a lot of work to come up with the money but thanks to my family and friends they
helped me achieve my dream.
My favorite place that we went to was Scotland. I loved everything that the island had to offer. When our plane broke through the thick rain clouds I could see the wonderful, green land of Scotland. Getting off the airplane, into the airport I was literally jumping for excitement. And also happy that we didn’t have to get on another airplane for 3 weeks. Handing my past port to the workers to look over it and to put my first stamp in it made me even more excited. Then later walking out to the cold, wet air made me realize that I was thousands miles away from my family and friends, but I didn’t let that get in the way of having fun.
Being on a big tour bus, while going on the other side of the road took some getting used to. But driving to the restaurant, that was an hour away, I got to see more of the rolling green hills in the valley. It was amazing to see the different trees and bushes along the side of the road when I was raised in a city of man built things around me. Seeing all the little and old houses away from each other was also great to see. When we got to our destination we were all hungry and tired. But when we started to sit down and eat, all the girls (including myself) fell in love with the waiter’s Scottish accents. After eating we went to our hotel to finally rest after a long journey.
The next day we walked down the street of our hotel to a little theater building where a Scottish warrior was showing the weird weapons that they used and telling us more about their culture. When we walked in he was a tall man with red hair and a thick beard. He was wearing a kilt to give us the idea of what they wore in the early ages. We all sat around in a circle to learn the different weapons that they used when they went to battle. He later told us that before any battle, all the men would gather on the side of the hill to dance. They danced to represent their ansisters and to watch them over the battle. He also taught us some moves of the dances, and it was hard but lots of fun.
Some other activities that we did was going white river rafting. I never thought that I would be able to do that in Scotland, but it sure was fun. When we got there we had to put on wet suits to keep us warm in the ice cold water. It was hard to put the suits on because it was damped with the cold water already and because it was raining outside. When we got on the rafts to go down the river it was great seeing all the different animals, houses, trees, hills, and other things along the way. It was funny because our raft kept getting stuck
on the rocks, so bad that some of us would have to jump in the water to push us
off. It was so much fun that I want to return and do it again.
There are still so many fun activities that I did in Scotland. I even want to go back and live in Scotland after I am finish with my college
education. After meeting some friendly people and learning about their culture made me fall in love with the extraordinary country. I would do anything to smell the fresh air, feel the damp cold air from the rain, and to see all the green plants around me. It was a once in a life time experience for me to go to Scotland. I’m thankful for my family and friends helping me achieve my dream.

Stand Up (Scope)
Haveyou ever stood up for something that you believed or agreed with? If you have were you strong and made sure you made your point? Voltaire says, “Stand upright, speak thy thoughts, declare the truth thou hast, that all may share; be bold, proclaim it everywhere: They only live who dare.” This quote tells a lot of what we should do for our country or for ourselves. This took a big part of when the colonies where forming, they were not afraid to stand for what they want to happen. We should become more like them, showing how strong we can be by standing for ourselves. Making sure that we know what we are fighting for and making sure it will happen, and daring ourselves to take action in what we think is right.
In the first part of the quote it says, “Stand upright, speak they thoughts, declare the truth thou hast, that all may share;” Pretty much what
its saying is to have your own opinion and be willing to share it to the rest of the people. Back when the colonies where forming the people were starting to realize that they could stand up for what they think should be right and wrong. They started having courage to making sure that they will stand up for what’s right, if they didn’t they would most likely not have confidence in themselves. Now with our freedom we have that right to stand for what we want and to share it. It’s great knowing we can say what we want to say and not get in trouble for it.
“Be bold, proclaim it everywhere:” This second part of the quote tells us that we need to make sure that we know what we are talking about.
Without being bold, people would have a hard time taking your side or understand that you’re trying to say. Back then they made sure that they made sense and claim what they had said. Now today people would tell their comment to find out that it is different from what everyone else’s, so they would change their comment to the others. Being proclaim is to claim what is yours, showing that your comment is your comment and that you’re not going to change it because it is different from others. Staying bold and claiming what you said will make you a stronger person.
The last part is, “They only live who dare.” Most people that are strong take that courageous step to show what they stand for. Back then they took that jump to come to the new colonies for freedom rights, money, and land. They didn’t know if their plan was going to go the way that they planed it. No one really did until they took matters in their own hands. Now we even take leaps to see what will happen later on in life. We want to be the daring kind to stand up for ourselves. Those who don’t stand up for themselves have a harder time with life. But taking that extra step to stand up for what you believe in can take you places.
Voltaire’s quote really is powerful,“Stand upright, speak thy thoughts, declare the truth thou hast, that all may share; be bold, proclaim it
everywhere: They only live who dare.” Standing up for what you believe in, being bold and taking claim of it, and to taking that extra step. Without people like this back then or now America wouldn’t be where it is today. We wouldn’t have the freedom that we have now. Everything would be disorganized, with all the government that would make everything else much worse. Without the strong people that people made our Constitution, we would not be America. Thanks to those who have the courage to stand up, we are America.

Benefits from Animal Testing
Imagine yourself at the doctors just for a regular checkup. The doctor comes back in saying that there is bad news about your
health. The doctor tells you that you have cancer. That terrifying moment happened to my older brother a couple years ago. From the article
Organ Transplants says, “US surgeon Norman Shumway, who had been expected to perform the world's first human to human transplant, began transplanting hearts in dogs in the 1950s.” (www.understandinganimailresearch.org) Think about all of the medical help that the world has today. Most of the medicine, treatments, transplants, and medical breakthrough wouldn’t have happened if there wasn’t any animal testing involved. The benefit from animal testing is having people know the safety of the drugs, have the research to find drugs and treatments, and helps contributes too many lifesaving cures.
Likewise knowing the safety to drugs is very important. If people didn’t have the knowledge of the safety to drugs they would be risking their lives. In the article Using Animals for Testing: Pros Versus Cons, it says, “Drugs in particular can carry significant dangers with their use but animal testing allows to initially gauge the safety of drugs prior to commencing trials of humans.” (www.aboutanimaltesting.co.uk) The meaning of the word gauge is to determine the exact quantity. If the Doctors or the researchers don’t get that exact amount of medicine of what the patient should take, they can put the users’ lives in danger. But thanks to animal testing the doctors and researchers can know the
exact safety conditions that the medication or product have.
In addition with all the different illnesses and diseases around the world, people need to have the antibiotics or treatments to help the person
become better with the illness or disease. From the article Using Animal for Testing: Pros versus cons “Many medical treatments have been made possible by animal testing, including cancer and HIV drugs, insulin, antibiotics, vaccines, and many more.” (www.aboutanimaltesting.co.uk). In other words without the antibiotics or treatments the patients that have diseases and illnesses have a greater chance of dying from it.
Equally important more people can live everyday thanks to animal testing. Doctors can save more lives with all the different treatments and medicine from the information of animal testing. With my brother finding out that he had cancer, our family didn’t know what would happen. He went through many chemo treatments, radiation, and many different medications. Two years later he became cancer free. The California Biomedical Research Association states, “Nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals.” (www.animal-testing.procon.org)
Furthermore on the other side of the argument animal testing can become a bad thing. From the article History and Debate of Animal Rights tells, “One of the major disadvantages to animal testing is that a significant number of animals are harmed or die as a result of experiments and testing.” (www.debate.org>BigIssues) It is sad to think that animals are left in cages, being poked and messed around with all day. Animals are living creators they deserve the best for them also.
In closing without the animal testing scientist, doctors, and researchers do the world wouldn’t know the safety to different drugs and products, have the research to find the drugs and treatments, and contributes too many lifesaving cures and treatments. Many people with an illness or disease can have a second chance in life thanks to animals. So now imagine that moment you were being told that something was affecting your health. Would you want the best testing to get to your regular health back to the way it used to be?
